ACC Football 2010: Betting Previews and Odds Coastal Division

By: CTS Guest Capper     Date: Jul 18, 2010
Print Article

Just blink and it will be time for the first College Football game. So we are very busy with our football odds, picks and previews. Earlier this week we looked at the Atlantic Division of the ACC and now we will look at the more competitive Coastal division.

Betting Previews and Odds to win ACC's Coastal Division

Miami Hurricanes (+125): 2009 record 9-4
-Maybe the most interesting team in the whole ACC as many think the talent level could equal to some of the great Miami championship teams of the 80's and 90's. Without a question this is the front runner to win the whole ACC. Only question going into the season is the offensive line who at times last year made QB Harris run for his life. This team should be favored in almost every game this year and only one tough conference road game at Clemson. Early season games at Ohio State and Pittsburgh will most likely determine if this team can play for all the marbles. Great value and only injuries would keep this team from winning the Coastal Divsion.

Virginia Tech Hokies (+200): 2009 record 10-3
-A disappointing 2009 as they really felt they were going to win the Coastal division. Many around the Hokies are pretty upset that they are being discarded even though they have most key players back off last years squad. On offense this team is loaded with the best RB in league Ryan Williams plus dual threat QB Tyrod Taylor. Of course this team is known for its defense and special teams and this years squad is no different. Even with only 4 starters returning on defense this side of the ball will be very good. First game out this team plays Boise at a neutral site so we might know how good they will be. Road games at Miami, BC and UNC will make it hard to win the Coastal but hard to count out the champions. Value is not on their side have to pass with this schedule.

North Carolina Tar Heels (+300): 2009 record 8-5
-Butch Davis has won the recruiting wars in recent years but a pending recruiting scandal could derail what would be a really promising season. If this team can focus just on football this might be a magical season. One of the best defenses in 2009 is almost 100% back and ready for even better things. Unfortunately the offense struggled at times last year and not much different headed into this year. First game out we might see if the offense will be any better as they play LSU. Rest of schedule is not a ton easier as they have to play both FSU and Miami on the road. Can't bet on this team to win the Coastal even with this defense but this team will have a very good season.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (+500): 2009 record 11-3
-Last years surprise team was this Yellow Jackets team. This triple offense is nearly impossible to stop and with the best coach in the conference Paul Johnson feels like he has chance to repeat this year. In fact this team was so good last year on offense that they overcome one of the worst defenses in the league to still come out on top. Schedule is not impossible and with their style of play hard not to think that they could not beat Miami at home to pull out this Coastal division. Definitely worth a second look at this value.

Duke Blue Devils (+1200): 2009 record 5-7
-No way this team can win the division but a winning record was not far off last year and an upset or two could lead for a bowl bid in 2010. They will have to get most of their wins early as late season the schedule will be really tough. Coach Cutcliff's offense is better than most people know but their defense is subpar. A winning record is possible but should be +2000 or more to win the Coastal, pass here.

Virginia Cavaliers (+1500): 2009 record 3-9
-The worst team in the ACC from 2009 will be lucky to improve on # of wins. Maybe the toughest schedule in the league and the worst offense from 2009 will keep this team down again in 2010. Rebuilding is an understatement here as this team will even get beat by Duke this year.

Only two teams have betting value, schedule, and the skills to win the Coastal in 2010. Both Miami and Georgia Tech are worth a bet for 2010.
