Belmont Stakes 2010: Trifecta Box Winning Play

By: CTS Guest Capper     Date: Jun 4, 2010
Print Article

Not that close matters in horse racing but we were fairly close with our four horse Trifecta Box in the Preakness Stakes. Again we try to break the bank with a few longshots that if it breaks just right might give us a huge payday. Any sports betting or gambling involves risk but how many come with the excitement that we see in horse racing. The Belmont Stakes can sometimes give us small fields which usually hurts the prices on the exotics but not this year as we have a full field of 12 horse going to post.

ICE BOX : Should be the favorite at about 3-1 come post time but think he will not get the win. Very weak favorite as deep closers in the Belmont usually come up short plus his only start at Belmont was not great. We will be rooting against him to win but finishing 2nd or 3rd is very possible here.

FIRST DUDE : In my opinion should be the favorite but currently is listed at 2nd favorite at 7/2. What looks like lone speed on paper should make this horse very difficult to beat. Many novice handicappers think speed in a long race is bad but to the contrary closers usually come up short the longer the race goes. If had to put one horse on top to win this would be logical choice.

DROSSELMEYER : Very quick workout at Belmont either means this horse loved the track or this horse used up some of his energy. Hopefully for us this horse loved the track and is setting on a huge race. Second in the Dwyer at Belmont earlier should have this horse ready to bust out at 12-1.

FLY DOWN : Hard to argue with the backers of this horse as he beat First Dude twice and has one at Belmont in the Dwyer. At Bemont top jockey/trainer combo makes this one hard to leave out as John Velazquez and Nick Zito. Should be right behind First Dude coming for home and have a very good chance of overtaking him.

Box all four of the above horses. If you had to play it straight we are thinking: Fly Down, First Dude, Drosselmeyer. If we are correct should pay around $250 for a $1 TRI maybe even a little more if we are lucky. Hit it for $10 and get paid off really big.

Enjoy the Belmont Stakes!
