Cincinnati Bengals 2010: Betting Previews, Odds, and Breakdown

By: CTS Guest Capper     Date: Jul 29, 2010
Print Article

To start our 2010 AFC North group of NFL previews we will turn to last years winner the Cincinnati Bengals. Maybe the most competitive division of the NFL this year with three teams fighting for maybe only two playoff spots. The Bengals swept the division going 6-0 last year but only finished with 10-7 record losing in first round of the playoffs to the upstart New York Jets. Lets get right into it and breakdown the offense, defense, special teams, and odds for the 2010 season.

This offensive unit for the Bengals were so disappointing in 2009. The run game was good at times but with only Benson as a dependable runner their are many questions this year. Lucky for QB Palmer that they finally have made some big free agent pick ups at the WR position, that last year were the weak link of this team Also to add to the passing game they get TE Gresham, the best TE in this years draft. The offensive line was questioned all last year but came thru with flying colors, expect this young group to continue to grow and be even better. Look for this offense to open up the playbook with the addition of TO, Bryant, and Gresham in the passing game. Only question on this side of ball is if Benson can stay healthy and repeat the great 2009 season.

Defensive carried the Bengals in 2009 and look to be as good if not better in 2010. The hottest defensive coordinator in the game is Coach Zimmer and he is back to prove last year was not a fluke. This defense really has no weakness but is led by maybe the best two duo of DB's in all the NFL. Both Joseph and Hall can shut down the top two receivers for teams, a luxury that not many others can boast. A healthy Odom will lead the defensive line that have a ton of no names that get the job done but are not dominant. The LB crew are led by Maligua and Rivers and finally healthy now expect them to really produce big numbers. This defense will be a top 10 defense without a doubt and could even be a top five if they stay healthy.

Without a doubt the biggest question on this team is the place kicker Nugent. The way this team played last year they relied on the defense and field goals to win several close games. Nugent has been a disappointment since arriving in the NFL and think the Bengals might be looking for kicker by week 6. Luckily rest of the special teams is solid with great punting and coverage. The return game should get big boast from Shipley that is a rookie from TEX. Overall this is a good special teams unit, but missed fg's might cost the special teams coach his job if he is not careful.

Odds for Cincinnati Bengals 2010
  • Odds to win Super Bowl +5000
  • Odds to win AFC Championship +2500
  • Odds to win AFC North +350
  • Over under total wins 8
Future wagers have a ton of value for what looks like another playoff season for the 2010 Bengals. Love the over 8 wins as they still are team to beat in their division. Would take the Bengals to win AFC north at +350 as both Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers have a ton of questions. This might even be the year that both the offense and defense both perform at a high level and propel this team to the Super Bowl. Good team that is being way underestimated.
