Its less that three weeks until the start of another exciting football season. Coach Bobby Bowden and FSU (+120) has once again been installed as the solid favorite to win this years ACC. The Seminoles are trying to get back on the mountain top after a couple very down years for their standards. Today Handicapper Craig Trapp will take time away from his Free Picks to preview and predict the Seminoles chances.

Offensively this team has really struggled over the past two seasons. The big plays have been hard to come by for this team lately. The classic teams of the 90's used to score at will on people, but not so any longer. Returning on this years offense is the whole offensive line and also QB Chris Ponder. Also returning for his third year coach Jumbo Fisher. Each year Fisher has piloted this offense they have seen drastic improvements. If FSU can improve off last years offensive production the ACC better watch out.

The NFL used to line up to draft FSU defensive players in the 90's as they were loaded at every position, but this is no longer the case. The 2009 defense has to replace both safeties and also find a way to stop the run. Look for Coach Mickey Andrews to tweak his pressure packages and start bringing more run blitzes and less passing blitzes. Either way this year the success of the team will only be as good as this years defense.

Not sure how this team will fare early as they have many unanswered questions on defense. Also a very tough early schedule with Miami, BYU, and South Florida in the first four games. Definitely do not like this years team to win the ACC as several of the other top teams have much more favorable schedules with much less questions in personnel. A solid season for sure as the Seminoles end up at 9-3 and end a new years day bowl but not the Orange Bowl that they really wanted.
