Enjoy our breakdown on our hot and cold pitchers which will give you a look at two featured hot pitchers going on the current day along with a struggling pitcher featured that I believe will come with a solid start. Yesterday's featured pitchers combined for 23.1 IP giving up just 8 hits, and 5 ER.
Yesterday's Featured Pitchers:
Tim Lincecum (8.1 IP 3H, 2 ER, 11K's)
Ryan Dempster (8 IP 4H, 3ER)
Cold Featured Pitcher:
John Lester (7IP 1H 0ER 11K) *As I mentioned I thought he'd turn this around and he came up with a gem.
Hot Starters:
Adam Wainwright (3-1, 32IP, 1.69 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, 26K's)
Wainwright makes our "poster boy status." Although LIncecum threw a gem his team lost in extra innings lets hope that does not start a trend for bad luck. Wainwright will go up against the struggling Braves and Jurrjens. This team before last nights game was hitting just .206 and scoring 1.79 runs per 9 in their last 9 vs. RHP. That's not a good sign considering they don't hit against Wainwright to begin with who has a 4-0 record vs. the Braves.
Wainwright's 4 starts vs. the Braves have all been of quality. Combined it has given him 26IP giving up 24 hits 5 earned runs. Cardinals are 36-15 in Wainwright's L51 starts on 4 days rest. They are 14-3 in their last 17 vs. NL East with Adam starting. I think he dominates on Thursday, but there might be one thing that you may want to think about before just blindly bet the run line. Wainwright last year had a 3.27 ERA during the day, but his 2.39 ERA during night starts was almost a run better.
Ricky Romero (1-1, 30IP, 1.80 ERA, 0.87 WHIP)
Romero is having a nice start to the 2010 season and he'll make the home start where the Jays are just 4-8 this year. He'll go up against Justin Duchsherer who has not given up an earned run in 3 starts vs. Cleveland, Baltimore, and Seattle. The Blue Jays however may be able to get to the Righty and they'll have to score runs because their bullpen has been awful with a 7.67 ERA in their last 10 games.
Romero is 2-0 vs. Oakland in two starts last year which are his only starts in his career against them. He went a total of 14 IP giving up 12 hits, 3BB and 2 ER while striking out 11. Oakland has really struggled against lefties batting just .218 and scoring 2.81 runs per 9 in their last 10 vs. LHP. I really like for Romero to go deep into this game and I believe the under might be a nice play.
Honorable Mention:
Roy Oswalt (2-2, 2.42 ERA, 1.00 WHIP 26 IP,21K's)
Justin Duchsherer (24.2 IP, 1.82 ERA, 1.26 WHIP)
Matt Garza (3-1, 29 IP, 2.17 ERA, 1.14 WHIP)
Cold Starters:
Gavin Floyd (0-2, 19.1 IP, 8.38 ERA, 2.02 WHIP)
Unlike yesterday when I told you a pitcher that was cold that was going to star in Lester, who did. Today I'm giving you a pitcher to absolutely fade if you can. Floyd has struggled and he's struggled big time with his control. He's not a guy to strike you out so if his control is not on he's going to get hit hard. Floyd has given up 12 ER in 7.1 IP in his last two starts alone.
White Sox are 5-16 in his last 21 road starts and 2-9 in their last 11 in Texas overall. Floyd has not pitched well against the Rangers. Texas is one of the more friendly hitter parks and Floyd has two starts here and neither one of them have been pretty going 8.2 IP combined in the two starts giving up 11 hits, 9 ER in two losses.
Ice Cold:
Bronson Arroyo (0-2, 23IP, 7.43 ERA, 1.39 WHIP)
Doug Davis (0-2, 18.1IP, 8.35 ERA, 2.07 WHIP)
