Kansas City Chiefs '09 Preview and Predicitons

By: CTS Guest Capper     Date: Aug 25, 2009
Print Article

No NFL team has made more changes in the offseason than the Chiefs. KC hired longtime assistant GM Poeli and offensive minded Haley as Head Coach. The one thing that was a reliable QB and a solid defense. Both have been addressed in the offseason and many around KC are thinking wild card berth. Oddsmakers aren't as convinced, Chiefs Over Under Wins at 6! Today Craig continues his previews and predictions for the 2009 football season.

The offense has made a ton of changes and at the helm this year will be new starter Matt Cassell. If he can keep up the success that he orchestrated in New England this team will be very good. Other than the loss of Tony Gonzalez all the weapons for KC are back and even better. Adding an offensive mastermind at head Coach in Haley will really help this offense be more creative. Maybe the only question is the offensive line and if they can protect Cassell and open up holes for Larry Johnson. At WR Dwayne Bowe has a chance to lead the NFL in yards and at worse another 1,000 yard season.

Maybe the bigger question for the '09 Chiefs is can all the new defensive additions make this squad decent. With what looks like a very explosive offense the defense does not have to hold teams scoreless but can't give up over 20 points as they did last season. A move to the 3-4 looks to fit young talented players like Dorsey and rookie Jackson. Last year the Chiefs had a league low 10 sacks on the season but the move to the 3-4 should help free up there OLB's to get after the quarterback more often. Veteran additions at LB with Thomas, Vrabel, ane Biesel should help this team at least slow teams down this year. The secondary is young and might be the weakest part of the team.

The Chiefs have a chance to be this years most improved team. Without a doubt they will be much better overall but a very tough early schedule could really stop early season success. Love all the personell changes that the Chiefs made and can't imagine this team doesn't exceed 6 wins. Not sure they get the 9-10 wins needed to get into the playoffs but 8-8 is very likely
