The Major League Baseball season can really become a drag with so many games and wagers daily. We have finally reached half way and its time to examine what has happened so far. Today is a break from our usual daily Free Sports Picks article, instead we look at the best teams to bet on when it comes to money line wagers.
Most consider baseball to be the hardest sport to make money as their is no spread like most sports. Instead we see most play either run line plays or money line sides. To see the value in the best teams to wager on we will look at only money line wagers. In this case we will base all wager on a 100 dollar / point system. That is if a team is favored -120 we would have to wager 120 to win 100. If a team is a +120 underdog we only have to wager 100 to win 120. Today lets look at the best 5 teams at our mid season report card.
1. San Diego Padres +1843: Without a doubt the best money line team thus far this year. Hard to imagine the team with the most wins is an underdog or slight favorite in most games so far this season. Great pitching has saved them as they are in the bottom of most offensive categories when it comes to the national league.
2. Cincinnati Reds +1061: Most experts had the Reds as a dark horse to win this division and we are seeing why. Reds are at top of most offensive categories and have been pitching very consistently. Still the value has not gone away as Reds have won second most games as an underdog.
3. New york Mets +978: A very good interleague record with some wins at huge underdog prices has this teams profits a little skewed. If ace Santana could keep up his end of bargain this team would be really cleaning up at the windows. Rest of pitching staff has overachieved could be in for trouble unless bats wake up.
4. Atlanta Braves +847: Only a horrible start has kept this team from being are #1 profit producer. A lack of big name pitchers and a young nucleus has this kept the price reasonable even as they continue to click off wins. Second half of season look for the value to continue as they have on paper the toughest division.
5. Texas Rangers +746: The hottest team at the plate since the summer heated up, could spell trouble for opponents. Only big issue here is price is usually way too high. Look at Run Line wagering instead of laying so big of numbers in second half of season.
As you can see in our mid season top 5 teams against the Money Line its really important to consider pricing. The AL East elite teams of Boston, New York Yankees, and Tampa Bay all have near the best records but still have only a profit a little above 800 dollars or units.
