Starters: Jose Contreras (R)-(2-7, 5.19) vs. Jeremy Sowers (R)-(2-5, 5.44)
Former Cy Young winner, Cliff Lee was totally dominated last night by the White Sox and former is the appropriate word, as he will not win it this year. Chicago battered the Cleveland ace early and often and Lee was showered and dressed by the end of the 5th inning. I turned the game off as this one was over early, but I will say the rest of the AL Central had better keep an eye on the White Sox.
Even though I turned the game off and began watching another game, their fellow competitors were taking notice. Chicago is right in the mix of the playoff race and are legitimate contenders. Jose Contreras doesn't have outstanding numbers overall, but is coming off a great month of June in which he tossed a one hit shut out and followed that with a just as impressive two hit shut out.
Cleveland proved once again why they are one of the poorer teams in the majors; pitching. The Indians have none, or more precisely the quality of their staff from top to bottom is sub par and that's about as nice as I can say it. Their offense seems to be behind the eight ball on a nightly basis and simply can't keep pace.
I just love getting positive odds on a team that seems to rising to the occasion and are coming off a dismantling of one of the best pitchers in baseball. These guys are showing they still have some spunk in them and I'll ride them in this one.
