Now that we have put our free sports picks section on hold it gives us time to do our annual football preview. Today we are looking at the AFC East's Miami Dolphins. The AFC East might be the most competitive division in all the NFL, in fact many think the Jets and Patriots will challenge for the AFC crown this year. President Bill Parcels always puts his touch on a team and this Dolphins team is definitely one built in his image. The Dolphins for 2010 have big hopes and lets preview the offense, defense, special teams, and odds.
In 2009 the offense was helped out by the wrinkle that took over the NFL "the Wildcat offense". This will still be a part of the Dolphins attack but don't look for it to have near the same success as the leagues defensive coordinators will figure it out. So that leaves Chad Henne and newly acquired Brandon Marshall to really have to put up some much more consistent passing numbers. This will be important as the run game has been so good the last few years but with Ricky Williams getting older and Ronnie Brown always banged up. Still not convinced that the offense is on par with some of the top teams they play this year.
Defense is the calling card to almost every Bill Parcells team, and he has added a ton of new young players since arriving. Unfortunately with all these young players their seems to be more questions than answers. Last year injuries forced a ton of combinations in the secondary which should help give them great depth this year. With the departure of veteran pass rushers Porter and Taylor the question really is where will the pass rush come from. For me this team could be in real trouble as they have no leader and play one of the better schedules this year. Hate to doubt Bill Parcells talent analysis but just think they don't have the speed to shut down New England and the Jets in this division.
If you have ever watched the NFL films of Parcells from back in the day you would see him spending more time with the special teams than almost any other group. For all that concentration you would think he would have a more Special unit. Place kicking is solid with pro bowl Carpenter but punting and the return game looks to be sup par this year.
Odds for the Miami Dolphins 2010:
- Miami Dolphins to win AFC East +240
- Dolphins over under wins 8.5
- Miami Dolphins to win Super Bowl +3000
- Dolphins to win AFC Championship +1500
This is the third year of Sporano and Parcells rebuilding effort in south beach. In 2009 we saw a team that had chance for playoffs all the way to the last game of year. Don't expect a repeat unless Marshall has a bigger affect than he did in Denver last year. Would play the Dolphins under 8.5 wins as think they only go 8-8 this year missing the playoffs again.
