New England Patriots the team to beat in 2009?

By: CTS Guest Capper     Date: Aug 15, 2009
Print Article

Another year is upon us in the NFL and what do you know the New England Patriots (+300) are once again the favorite to take home the Lombardi trophy. Coach Belichek and Tom Brady seem motivated by the expectations and don't be shocked if this team once again wins the AFC East. Today Craig will break down the offense and defense and give you his predictions for the Patriots 2009 season.

Offensively this team is loaded with Brady back, many say better than ever, they could break some more offensive records. The running game last year suffered a ton of injuries but with veteran Fred Taylor in camp look for the ground game to be one of the best in the NFL. Brady will have no shortage of weapons with both Welker and Moss back and ready for an aerial assault. This Patriots offense can not and will not be stopped this year. Two years ago this team broke almost every offensive record known to man and this year they will be just as good.

Defensively the Patriots way is in full effect as they lost several key starters but no one seems to worry. Hobbs, Vrabel, and Harrison would be irreplaceable for most teams but with the mad genius at the helm no one should worry. If Thomas stays healthy at LB this team should be once again very good. Also the addition of Springs and Bodden in the secondary should sure up the pass defense. Don't be surprised if this team makes some moves picking up some late cuts from other teams. The Pats are the best at taking others cast offs and making them solid players.

If this Pats team can just be solid on defense the Lombardi trophy will be back in New England. Easily this team will get at least 12 wins and would not shock me if they get to 14 wins. No undefeated season this year but either way they should end up with home field advantage for the playoffs which will make them a huge favorite to win it all again.
