Notre Dame at Louisville Big Monday Winning Breakdown

By: Craig Trapp     Date: Jan 11, 2009
Print Article

Preseason rankings has both of these Big East schools in the top 10. Notre Dame has definitely had a better season thus far but Louisville is still ranked in the top 25 and are very tough on there home court. Odds makers have made Louisville a 7 point favorite in this big east early season match up. Last year Notre Dame went to Freedom Hall and played them very well but losing 90-85. This one should be a very important game for both teams with post season seeding on the line.

Louisville is a very talented team but have had a few unexpected road losses. But at home Louisville is very tough only losing once with a home record of 8-1. Young post play and outside shooting has been poor in there early season let downs. Don't expect any let downs as the last two games against UK and Villanova they seem to have fixed these problems. This game will probably come down to Earl Clark and his ability to dominate the less athletic big men for Notre Dame. Louisville must have this win if they are going to have any chance to win the Big East title this year.

Notre Dame has the most experience of any of the top Big East teams. They start all juniors and seniors and team chemistry is always a huge advantage for them. Luke Harangody is the returning Big East player of the year but this season he has not played quite as well. Early in the season he missed several games due to illness but seems to be getting healthier and think he will get his average 20 plus points and 10 plus rebounds. The difference maker on this team is Kyle McAlarney and his very good outside shooting. Ask North Carolina this year this kid can really shoot the ball he scored from everywhere when they faced off this year. Notre Dame knows that if they want to win the conference they must win on the road against at least three of the top tier teams.

Big East conference is the top conference in NCAA this year. Right now they have eight top 25 teams and will most likely have nine teams in the NCAA tournament. Odds Makers are not usually wrong but this point spread seems a little high considering Notre Dame's experienced veteran team and the result of last years game at Freedom Hall. Very high scoring game with both teams getting in the 80's. Take Notre Dame as my underdog pick of the week. Craig's pick: NOTRE DAME +7
