Ohio State Buckeyes '09 Football Preview and Predictions

Today Handicapper Craig Trapp continues in his previews of the upcoming football season. Hope everyone has enjoyed all of Craig's Free Picks and Predictions over the past few weeks. Today he will look at the Ohio State Buckeyes and give you his predictions for the powerhouse of the Scarlet and Grey.

The Buckeyes are coming off a 10-3 season which for most schools would lead to celebration. But instead the OSU nation were very disappointed. Last years team was full of veterans and many thought they would fight for the National Championship and at worst a Rose Bowl trip. Instead this team looked bad early with an embarrassing loss to USC and were inept on offense throughout much of the season. The Bucks lost a ton of talent off of last years squad but as always Coach Tressel has reloaded in a big way.

Offensive is going to be the Bucks calling card this year. Terrell Pryor has had a full year under his belt and the offensive coaches have had all offseason to figure out how to use there star young QB. The big question on offense will be the RB spot with the loss of 1st round pick Beannie Wells no one seems confident in who will carry the load this year. OSU lost there top two TD threats at WR but don't look for this team to struggle passing the ball. Pryor worked all offseason improving his accuracy and with the threat of his run most teams will have to stack the box and WR will be running to single coverage all year long.

Defense has been the calling card for the Bucks every since the National Championship win in 2002-2003 but this years team has a ton of holes to fill. But the good news is that Coach Tressel does not rebuild he reloads. If they can find a replacement for Jenkins they will again be one of the best secondaries in all of football and the Bucks never struggle at LB so don't worry about the loss of Lauranitis. This defense will once again be a top defense in the Big Ten. Might even be a top defense in the nation if these young talented players progress from last years supporting roles.

Many are pointing to the September 12th matchup with the USC Trojans as the measuring stick for this years Buckeyes team. No way the Bucks will be embarrassed two years in a row by the men of Troy. They might not win this game but a close game by these two titans for sure.

The over under total number of wins for this years OSU team is 9 1/2. Love the over here as only see two potential losses: USC and at PSU! The Big Ten is down this year and the Bucks will once again clean up what has become a below average football conference. Take the over 9 1/2 wins and most likely this Bucks team will once again win the Big Ten Conference.
