Pittsburgh Steelers 2009 can they Repeat?

Print Article

NFL has not seen a repeat winner since New England in 2003 and 2004. It is so hard to repeat as a champion in any sport but the NFL and the free agency period has made it almost impossible. The oddsmakers have Pittsburgh Steelers at (+1000) to win it again in 2010. Right now they are the 4th favorite and 2 of the 3 teams in front of them are from the AFC.

Offensively the Steelers have basically everyone back off of the Superbowl winning team. Big Ben was so good in the clutch last year that many have started to put him in the company of Manning and Brady. The one negative about the offense in 2008 was the lack of a consistent running game but this year they will be much better running the ball. Parker will not carry the ball near as much as Mendenhall will get a ton more carries. This should keep both fresh and help late in the season. The passing game is going to get even better this year as Sweed is going to surprise alot of teams. Most WR's don't do much there first year but the 2nd year usually is where the skills start to shine. This balanced attack will be so tough to stop.

The defense has been the backbone of this franchise since the 70's. This years team will be the same old Pittsburgh team, attacking aggressive defense. The secondary has been the weak link in years past but the defensive line and linebackers are so good it usually covers for them. This years team will once again be a top 10 defense in all of the league. Foote is gone but actually think that will make them even better. If defense wins championships you must consider this team one of the favorites to win it all.

Sportsbooks have listed the Steelers Win Total at 10.5. Would definitely think the over is a lock. This team will walk thru there division and don't see them losing any of those games. Also this years schedule is even easier than last years for them and realistically think 13-3 is where they will end up.
