Pittsburgh Steelers 2010: Betting Previews, Odds, and Breakdown

By: CTS Guest Capper     Date: Aug 3, 2010
Print Article

The 20010 NFL season is just about here and thus we take off our daily free sports pick to breakdown each NFL team. Today we continue to look at the AFC north as we turn our attention to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ben Roethlisberger continued to have legal problems and has been suspended for at least 4 games by the league, they traded volatile, but explosive, super bowl mvp Santonio Holmes and a lot of questions remain as they open camp in Latrobe. The Steelers did sure up their corner position on draft day by acquiring Bryant McFadden from the Cards and also improved thier O-line with Pouncey, the interior lineman from Florida.

On offense the Steelers will turn to Byron Leftwich to lead the offense through the 1st 4 games. He will look for all pro wide out Hines Ward to help the Steelers be productive on O. The Steelers will also have to find a way to get sure handed tight end Heath Miller the ball more with the departure of Holmes. Essex and Colon will continue to lead a very good right side of the offensive line for Mendenhall to run behind. Mendenhall will have to stay healthy and Walace will need to emerge as a true number 2 wide out.

The Defense will again be a strong point. They need to be able to help hold 4th quarter leads ths season something they were not able to do last year. If they are improved the Steelers can make the playoffs. The Steelers are led on D by linebackers Woodley, Harrison and Farrior who in our opinion is one of the best backer unit in the league. Behind them is the explosive Polumalu, who is the one of the best safeties in the league when healthy. After a series of injuries last year it is imperative that he remains healthy.

On special teams Logan draws the tough assignment of replacing Holmes. Holmes will be missed in this part of the game. Jeff Reed is a solid contributer in the kicking unit.

Odds for 2010 Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Over/Under 9 +130
  • Super Bowl +1800
  • AFC +900
  • AFC North +225
I think the best value is taking them at +130 to win at least Nine games.

  • Looking at the schedule we see wins: wk 3 @ Tampa, wk 6 Browns, wk 11 Oakland, wk 12 Bills, wk 14 Cincinnati, wk 16 Pathers, and wk 17 @ Cleveland.
  • We see Loses: wk 2 @ Tennessee, wk 4 Ravens, wk 8 @ New Oreans, wk 9 @ Cincy, and wk 13 @ Ravens.
  • Games that could go either way: wk 1 Atlanta, wk 7 @ Miami, wk 10 New Engand, and wk 15 Jets.
The Steelers have a ton of questions early with Big Ben on suspension but they should get better as season advances.
