SEC Football '09: Previews and Predictions

By: CTS Guest Capper     Date: Aug 14, 2009
Print Article

The SEC has taken over college football over the past 4 years, two of which saw Florida Gators finish with the National Championship. The SEC has also dominated the bowl games over the past 4 years winning virtually every big game they play in. This year will find the SEC as the best overall conference without a doubt. Today Craig will give his quick preview and prediction for Craig's top 5 SEC teams.

Also check out Handicapper Jimmy Boyd's SEC preview for 2009!

Florida (12-0): Current Odds to win the SEC (-250). Try and find a flaw in the returning champs, you can't find one. The Gators return every defensive starter and almost every offensive key player with the exception of Harvin. By the way they have the best Coach, Urban Meyer, and the best QB, Tim Teebow. Only one midseason game at LSU will stand between an undefeated SEC season. Craig has the Gators going undefeated and marching to the National Championship game.

LSU (10-2): Current Odds to win the SEC (+600). Unlike the SEC East the West is up for grabs. LSU looks to have the makings of a very good football team that could possibly give the Gators a run for there money. The development of sophomore QB Jefferson will be the difference this year as he will lead this offense to some scoring outbursts. The defense loses several key defensive lineman but another unbelievable recruiting class has them reloaded. Coach Miles might have the most raw talent in all of football and this year the youth will step up and win the West.

Ole Miss (9-3): Current Odds to win the SEC (+700). The most hyped team in all of the SEC coming off a season that they were the only team to beat Florida. Many have QB Snead as a darkhorse Heisman candidate. Defense will be the key to this team if they are going to beat Alabama and LSU they must consistently shut down the other powerhouses in the league. Not sure they will sneak up on anybody this year but they will win the game they are supposed to win and still finish with 9 wins.

Alabama (9-3):Current Odds to win the SEC (+600). Coach Saban is loaded with young talent and the expectations are very high. The huge loss of QB Parker Wilson will be the one player that could keep this team from once again challenging Florida for supremacy in the SEC. The defense has 9 starters back and will have to carry this team early in the year until the young offense gets rolling. The positive though is easy schedule as they don't play Florida or Georgia this year. Either way this young team will finish with three losses.

Georgia (8-4): Current Odds to win the SEC (+700). This team is reloading after losing Stafford and Moreno on offense. But some insiders actually think they might be more consistent this year as QB Cox has really impressed in Spring Practice. Also the depth at RB has never been a problem at Georgia so watch this stable as RB's as they will have no problem carrying the load this year. A very tough game at Oklahoma State to open and a for sure loss at Florida are the only two games that look unwinnable. Georgia will finish 2nd in the SEC East but far behind the Gators.

The National championship will once again go thru the SEC. Craig's top 5 from the SEC all have a chance to go to a very nice bowl and would be surprised if all of them don't win there bowl game. The depth of talent in the SEC is so good and they are without a doubt the best football conference for the fourth year in a row.
