Texas Longhorn Football '09 Preview and Predictions

By: CTS Guest Capper     Date: Aug 19, 2009
Print Article

Not often does a team finish with only one loss and still are disappointed. But Texas fans, players and coaches all have a bad taste in their mouth. Expectations for this years Longhorn season is thru the roof. Heisman hopeful and captain Colt McCoy is focused on winning an outright BIG 12 title and adding a National Championship title as a bonus. Sportsbooks look to be believers as they have made Texas (+600) to win this years National Championship.

Offensively this team was amazing last year as Colt McCoy was the most accurate passer in all of football. Not much should change as Texas returns nearly every major contributor on offense. Colt McCoy has his best friend, top receiver Jordan Shipley. The running game was non existent last year in almost every game but did not cost them any wins. This year there are 6 players fighting to be the starter but no clear cut starter yet. Not sure this team can be stopped offensively unless extensive injuries occur.

Most of the questions for this season revolve around the defense. A key loss of Orakpo at DE and a very poor secondary from last year are the main questions. Many experts think the defense will once again give up a ton of points as their secondary is still questionable at best. Its no help also that the offense scores so fast that their defense gets very little rest. Look for this unit to once again give up 20 plus points per game in 2009.

This team has really big goals in 2009 and winning the Big 12 is first and foremost. To reach that goal they have 2 games standing in there way: Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Craig predicts that they once again beat Oklahoma State but stumble and lose to Oklahoma. That will make them 11-1 on the year and unless Oklahoma loses twice along the way will make them short of their goal.
